It's likely that he will someday, right? And your 6th point sounded an awful lot like Phillip and me. We're not really gift people, and it would probably be more likely I'd be upset he spent money than anything! We usually do something that is free/cheap and more on the thoughtful side. One year when I complained about scraping my car in the winter with my crappy ice scraper he bought me a nice new one for $5 which was a nice present on its own, but then he got up early and scraped my windshield with it for me every morning.
